What does it do?

Aquagrain incorporates organic waste from the food industry into a biodegradable, carbon chain polymer which absorbs up to 30 times its mass in liquid, providing your crops with food and drink for when irrigated -  in a sustainable way.  

 

Its organic content, with enhanced micronutrients, not only supplies your crops with valuable nutrients, cutting the requirement for inorganic fertilisers, it also significantly stimulates microbial activity in the soil and is ideal for regenerative farming practices.   

 

Aquagrain biodegrades over 12 months to leave just water, CO₂ and organic matter in your soil.

How much do I need?

Typical spread rates would be 500 kg per hectare or 50 g per 5 ltr pot,  if crop growing in a controlled environment.

 

Because Aquagrain Crops contains NPK at 5.4 -6.2- 4.2, as well as micronutrients, standard crop fertiliser treatments may need to be reduced.

 

Because Aquagrain Crops cuts leachate by up to 60%, liquid fertilisers will be absorbed by Aquagrain and prevented from leaching away, cutting your liquid fertiliser and liquid ‘ide requirements.

Aquagrain saves water, feeds your plants and helps them grow stronger and live longer.




Does Aquagrain Crops contain nutrients?


Aquagrain Crops has a nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) value of 5.4-6.6-4.2, and is rich in magnesium, calcium, sulphur, trace elements and amino acids. It is pH neutral and has substrate binding properties.




How does Aquagrain Crops work?


Aquagrain soaks up and stores liquids, with the capacity of absorbing nearly 30 times its own weight. Liquids from these reservoirs are released upon root demand through osmotic pressure difference. In arid areas, the use of Aquagrain Crops in sandy soils increases the water holding capacity. Aquagrain can influence soil permeability, density, structure, texture, and evaporation rate of liquids through the soil.




Can Aquagrain Crops be used with edible plants such as vegetables and fruits?


Yes. In fact, Aquagrain Crops is formulated for just these purposes. Each granule contains essential plant nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, calcium, sulphur, trace elements and amino acids. Nutrition is released into the soil slowly so that plants have a ready supply as they grow.




How do I apply Aquagrain Crops?


Aquagrain Crops is simple to use. On surface application It can be spread by hand or with standard mechanised spreading machinery before. Once broadcast it needs to be integrated into the soil at crop root level. Aquagrain Crops can be combined with seeds in a drilling machine. When transplanting, plugging or potting the appropriate amount of Aquagrain Crops can be added directly below the plant or mixed within the pot medium prior to planting.




How often should Aquagrain Crops be applied?


Aquagrain Crops is a one-off application product which will last a season.




Can I wet Aquagrain Crops before application?


Yes depending on application method. Hydrated Aquagrain Crops works as well as, or even better than, dry granules. If you decide to hydrate Aquagrain, add 300ml of water to every 10g of Aquagrain Crops and allow 20 minutes for absorption before application.




What is the effect of Aquagrain crops on the environment?


Aquagrain Crops is a biodegradable, water-retaining polymer which also encapsulates nutrients and releases them at three different levels: fast, medium and slow. The environment benefits in at many ways:

  1. Less water will be used to achieve the same crop yield.
  2. Plants will not be overfed by an excessive quantity of nutrients.
  3. Heavy rainfall or over-irrigation will limit the washing away of nutrients.
  4. It significantly stimulates soil microbial activity
  5. It breaks down to leave water, CO₂ and organic matter, improving soil condition after repeated annual applications.
  6. It can cut sand and dust drift.




What is the shelf life of Aquagrain Crops?


Aquagrain Crops can last for as long as five years when stored properly. Proper storage means below 40 degrees Celsius and in a dry place. If granules get wet (either from water or high humidity) or are exposed to high temperatures, they may begin to stick to each other and form big lumps.




Do crops receive nutrients immediately after application?


Fast-release nutrients are on the surface of each Aquagrain Crop particle. Once hydrated (either by irrigation or rainfall), these nutrients dissolve in water and become available to crops.




Can fertilisers or plant food products be used with Aquagrain Crops?


Aquagrain Crops contains enough nutrients for low-demanding or short-life plants. However, if your crops show signs of nutrient deficiency, apply half the usual fertiliser dosage as Aquagrain Crops minimises leachate and keeps the nutrients at root level.




How should Aquagrain Crops be stored?


Aquagrain Crops should be stored at a temperature below 40 degrees Celsius and in a dry place. High temperatures and high moisture levels will cause particles to stick together and form big lumps. Aquagrain Crops is not hazardous or flammable see Material Safety Data Sheet.




Is Aquagrain Crops harmful to animals?


Aquagrain Crops is not harmful but is a water-retaining polymer, which absorbs a large quantity of water and expands. If consumed by an animal, it can make them bloat and feel discomfort, so Aquagrain Crops needs to be kept out of reach of animals and stored away from animal feeds.




Is Aquagrain Crops organic?


Aquagrain Crops is organic-based, but it contains some inorganic ingredients too.




How much can I expect crop yields to increase with Aquagrain Crops?


Crop yields are dependent on a significant number of variables, not least the weather which is less predictable through climate change. Crop yield predictions are therefore impossible. Aquagrain Crops recently delivered 27.5% higher crop yield on rainfed Spring Barley in Suffolk, UK and 230% increase in crop yield on rainfed (but drought affected) Winter Wheat in the Middle East.




Can Aquagrain Crops be used for individually planted crops, plug and potted crops?


Yes. Aquagrain Crops can be used on all crops at the recommended dose rate. Apply as directed for best results.




How much do I use?


Surface application: spread 500 kg of Aquagrain Crops per hectare and then mix in thoroughly to the root level. Pot/transplant application: mix in 10g of Aquagrain Crops well for each litre of your medium, i.e. compost, soil or sand.
